| An Overview of the Curriculum and the Syllabi

The curriculum and the syllabi of the UG and the PG programs are designed on the basis of the principles and guidelines of the Choice Based Credit System prescribed by the UGC and the Bharathidasan University to which the college is affiliated. The curriculum and the syllabi are designed to create a knowledge base among the young minds which can use the various components of the course structures as a launching pad to further their knowledge and strengthen the faculty of intellectual and creative thinking. Apart from the Core and Allied Courses, Discipline Specific Electives and Generic Electives are offered to create a holistic approach among the students toward the acquisition of knowledge.

Literatures of various cultures, races, and schools of thoughts are introduced to the students along with the basic theories and concepts of Literary Theory, Criticism, Applied Linguistics, Translation, Journalism and elements of English grammar. The comprehensive curricular framework plays a vital role in shaping the minds and the personality of the students to shine in their chosen fields of life. Since the majority of our students aspire to take to teaching at various levels, papers in English Language Teaching, and Grammar are introduced at both the UG and the PG levels in a graded manner.

Keeping in view the challenges the students face in competitive examinations like NET/JRF, SET, and Teachers Recruitment Board Examinations, an exclusive paper which consists of objective type questions covering Literature, Criticism and Theory is introduced in the M.A. program. Creating an aptitude and attitude among the students for research is one of the important and stated missions of our College. In order to realize this vision a paper in Research Methodology and a Project Work are introduced in the syllabus of the M.A. program.

Ample opportunity is provided in the syllabus framework to acquire knowledge in inter-disciplinary areas of knowledge. Students are encouraged to accumulate more credits and widen their knowledge by taking up self -study papers from the Discipline Specific Electives.
