Physics
Department of Physics was established in the year 1956 with B.Sc Physics programme in English medium. Subsequently, B.Sc Tamil medium was started in 1969 and M.Sc in 1970. It was recognized as a research department in the year 1986 for conducting Ph.D programmes in both Full time and Part Time modes. M.Phil programme was started in the year 2008. The Department, with well qualified and experienced faculty members and research team, adds the wings in fulfilling the vision and mission by inculcating the scientific temper among the budding students community and instills the challenging modern scientific ideas in the minds of young aspirers. Exclusive research laboratories with modern scientific equipments cater the researchers in major thrust areas in Physics. It has adequate infrastructures with well equipped solar powered laboratories and a library with 3802 books. To enrich the teaching and learning processes, curriculum and syllabi are regularly updated as per the latest UGC guidelines with the approval of Board of Studies. We proudly appreciate and acknowledge the achievements of Scientist M. Shankaran, Director, U R RAO Satellite Centre, ISRO, Bengaluru, our distinguished and an eminent alumnus.
